District 7 Participatory Budgeting for 2023

District 7 Participatory Budgeting polls opened. Now is your chance to ensure the projects that are meaningful to you and West Portal get funded. Unlike years past when project proposals were in a competition with each other for the most votes, this year our Supervisor has opted to ensure funding for ALL the proposals that receive at least 400 votes. That means you can literally vote for all the projects if you think they are worthy.

Two projects have our attention (there are 17 in total), and we urge you to visit the Participatory Budgeting web page and read up on each and cast your vote:

  • Design for community space at West Portal station
Develop a design and plan for a transit waiting plaza near West Portal SFMTA Muni station. This will improve the safety of the area, provide a public community space, and make West Portal more resilient by converting the steep, bushy hillside between the West Portal Tunnel entrance and the Library into a safe, attractive area with multiple uses.
  • Install irrigation system at Dewey Circle
Install an environmentally friendly, high-efficiency drip-irrigation system to keep the plants in the traffic circle healthy. This will benefit local business owners, children attending school nearby, and everyone who visits the area by ensuring the hard work put in by neighborhood volunteer gardeners will remain beautiful all year round.

Participatory Budgeting is unique to District 7 and enables residents to ensure that the small amount of discretionary funding reserved for our district goes to the projects you want the most. It doesn’t require any additional taxation or donations from residents. Voting is open between Monday, June 12th and Monday, June 26th.
